The farm has a farrow to finish type of operation aimed at producing and marketing slaughter hogs. It has 18 production buildings having a total animal population of 1,708 heads. The farm practice aimed to apply and practice the theoretical knowledge and skills gained through actual farm operation; to gain experience on the operations and management procedures practiced in a commercial farm; to develop the organizational skills necessary for effective management and supervision of a swine farm; and, to develop good social skills that will be necessary in dealing with different inviduals at different levels of the industry. I was able to participate in the routine activities such as cleaning, bathing and other special practices such as earnotching, tail docking, teeth clipping, vaccination, administering medication were also performed. The farm practice was also aimed at analyzing the existing farm situation that includes its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats primarily focusing on production performance data such as littersize at birth, average birth weight, farrowing rate, pre-weaning mortality and farrowing rate, among others. Sound recommendations for improvement were given based on these analysis.
