Abstract

The anthelmintic efficacy of dried betel nut was tested on native chickens raised under semi-confined system. Varying levels of betel nut were given once to chickens through the feed at 0(T1), 1(T2), 2(T3), and 3(T4) g/ Kg BW. The birds were distributed in 4 treatments with 4 replicates and 4 birds each replicate. The egg per gram count (EPG) showed significant (P< 0.05) percent reduction in T2, T3, and T4. However, dried betel nut did not expel completely the adult roundworms. The effective dosage (ED) 50 was not computed since treatments did not show any effect with 100% percent reduction that is needed to calculate the effective dosage. It was concluded in the study that dried betel nut at 1 ? 3 g/ Kg BW given at single dose does not have anthelmintic effect on adult worms.
