Abstract

The plant practice was conducted at Sensient Technologies (Phils.) Inc. located at Laguna International Park, Brgy. Mamplasan Biñan Laguna from April 25-May 20, 2011. Sensient Technologies is a leading manufacturer that provides components of flavour, colors and fragrances not only in the Philippines but also on countries from Asia to Europe. The company’s primary goal is to provide clients with products that are of best quality and are safe at all aspects of the operation. During the practicum, the student was able to apply the theoretical knowledge and skills learned from the university as she was exposed to the work being done in an actual food processing operation. The student spent most of the time in the Quality Assurance and Research and Development Department, and only a day in the production area. The student performed activities like physico-chemical and microbial analysis, actual product formulations, and clerical works, which provided her the hands-on experience to fully achieve the knowledge that is being taught during the practicum. Enhancement of self confidence and a good attitude towards work was also attained during the practicum. Some problems that were encountered were identified and proper recommendations were given for the improvement of the company.
