Abstract
The effects of madre de agua leaf meal (MDALM) on the growth performance and backfat thickness of finisher pigs, and its economic value as an alternative feed ingredient for pigs was determined through a 21 day - feeding trial. A total of 12 pigs were randomly distributed into three treatments following a randomized complete block design. Finisher pigs fed diet with 5% MDALM had the highest growth performance and most efficient feed conversion (p<0.05). Backfat thickness and average daily feed intake were not significantly different among treatments. Treatment 2, which contained 5% MDALM, had the highest total sales (PhP) compared to other treatments. Based on the results of this study, MDALM can be fed to finishing pigs at an inclusion rate of 5 percent.
