Abstract

The major practice was conducted at The Orchard Golf and Country Club (TOGCC), Dasmariñas, Cavite from April to May 2012. The general objective of the major practice was to gain useful knowledge and hands-on experience by observing and actively participating in the different interiorscape maintenance operations being done in The Orchard Golf and Country Club. The administrative office rooms, lobby centrepiece and Zen garden are the key areas that were discussed. The administrative office rooms and lobby centrepiece have medium light intensities (75-150 ft candles) while Zen garden has high to very high light intensities (150-1000 ft candles). The administrative rooms and Zen garden has relative humidity that is below (60%) the ideal percentage (73%) with reference to the temperature (25°C), Only the lobby centrepiece receives the ideal relative humidity (80%) with the reference to temperature (30°C). However, in the afternoon there is a significant reduction of relative humidity (35%) due to high wind velocity coming from the golf course. TOGCC makes their own compost, primarily from grass clippings and other landscape debris. Their compost are used as soil amendments, but it is recommended to mix it with coir dust for higher water holding capacity. TOGCC also practices manual weeding and uses pail and dipper for watering indoor plants. They also use cool fluorescent lamps as supplemental light indoors for maintaining plants. Initially, the cost of interiorscape operations of a 15 sq. meter area is PHP 25,153.92. This includes all labor expenses and plant acquisition. In the succeeding months where there is no need of plant change, the total estimated maintenance cost of interiorscape is PHP17,953.92 or PHP1,196.93 per sq. meter. Analyzing the total data gathered and observed circumstances, it is recommended to practice mulching and rejuvenative pruning to problem areas and problem plants. Moreover, to improve the landscape management of the club, it is also recommended to let the immediate supervisor to attend seminars and training regarding landscape maintenance operations. The major practice demonstrated that the practice of landscaping outside the University's vicinity is far more complex. Elements such as people, budget, environmental factors, landscape operations (design, implementation and maintenance), and softscape-hardscape relations affect the overall quality of landscaping at The Orchard Golf and Country Club. Integration and harmonization of these elements is critical for a good quality interiorship.
