Abstract

The major practice was conducted from December 2013 to March 2014 in three different sites inside the University of the Philippines Los Baños namely: Abelardo G. Samonte atrium and the interior gardens between the Leopoldo B. Uichanco Wing, Gerardo O. Ocfemia Wing and Rafael B. Espino Wing. During the major practice, various landscape maintenance practices such as waste management, water management, pest and disease management, weeding, replanting, mowing, thinning and pruning were observed and performed to gain skills, maintain and evaluate these landscapes. Recommendations were also made to further improve the landscapes. In general, the interior landscapes in the campus are poorly maintained. Although there are workers and building administrators that supervise them in the improvement of the areas, the landscapes are not given enough attention due to lack of knowledge or expertise and appropriate facilities, tools, equipment and other materials needed for an efficient landscape maintenance. Monthly maintenance cost of the Abelardo G Samonte atrium amounts to Php 12,694.11 (Php 53.09/ m2) while for the Leopoldo B. Uichanco- Gerardo O. Ocfemia- Raphael B. Espino interior gardens are Php 8,295.41(Php 11.42/ m2) and Php 9,855.47 (Php 13.57/ m2), respectively. For these landscapes to be able to keep UPLB a friendly and relaxing community, they should be kept vibrant that immediate and efficiently sustaining maintenance operations must be performed.
