Abstract

The 150-hour practicum was conducted at W Hydrocolloids Inc. (Phils.) located in Mountview Industrial Complex, Bancal, Carmona, Cavite from June 23 to July 31, 2014. W Hydrocolloids manufactures carrageenan products and supplying clients from different countries under the brand name 'RICO Carrageenan'. The student was assigned in the Quality Control department where she performed physico-chemical and microbial analyses of different products and raw materials. On the Production Area, she was able to observe the production process and perform some chemical tests like titration for the concentration of the bleaching solution. She was also taught on how to perform visual inspection of the seaweeds and inspect products before delivery or shipping to the clients. With these wide experiences in the industry, the student gained new knowledge and acquired new technical skills and was able to improve her confidence, interpersonal relationship, sense of professionalism and other abilities that can help her to pursue her career as a Food Technologist.
