Abstract

In this study, the concentration of dissolved iron was determined at different sites along Molawin Creek within the campus of the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Eighteen water samples were collected daily for three months and the water parameters (pH, temperature and amount of precipitation) were monitored for the same period. Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy was used to determine the concentrations of dissolved iron. The temperature of water samples ranged from 23.8o – 32.6oC while pH values varied between 6.09 and 8.82. The dissolved iron concentrations were detected using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and were found to be at relatively low concentrations ranging from <0.0018 to 2.2229 ppm. Using the results obtained from the analysis, an agent-based software was used to create a simulation model that enable visualization of the metal concentration in Molawin creek.
