Abstract

In this study, the concentration of calcium and the parameters that affect it were determined in strategic sites along Molawin Creek within the University of the Philippines Los Baños campus. Eighteen water samples were collected everyday for three months. The water parameters monitored were pH, temperature, and amount of precipitation. For the analysis of the concentration of calcium, Ion-Selective Electrodes for Ca2+ were used. The temperature of water samples ranged from 23.8 oC to 32.6 oC. The pH range of the water samples was 6.09 - 8.82 pH units and the concentration values for calcium were found to be within the range of 3.2971 ppm - 72.4669 ppm. Consistent high calcium concentrations were observed in sites near drainage systems. From the results of the analysis, an agent-based modeling software was used to create a simulation that shows the flow of calcium concentration in Molawin Creek.
