Abstract

The practicum was conducted April 10 to May 22, 2013 in Busco Sugar Milling Co., Inc. in Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon, Philippines. The raw and refinery practice was conducted in different departments namely: refinery, mills, gantry, boilers, process, raw process laboratory, refinery laboratory, environmental management safety office and human resource department. Data for crop year 2012-2013 from the raw process laboratory were gathered to assess the efficiency for the analyses conducted in the department using K-S test. It was found that cane ground (fiber%), Mill data (extraction and pol%), clarified juice (%pol), syrup (%pol, %sucrose and pH), filtered juice (%pol), A massecuite (Apparent purity), B molasses (Apparent purity) and B magma (%pol) exhibit non normal distribution thus, they are recommended to be tested frequently. The potential savings was estimated based on the recommended frequency of testing of the non-normal parameters and on the suggested new equipment for sampling and analysis that has to be acquired by the company. Since Busco is already equipped with modern analytical instruments, minimal updating is recommended.
