Abstract

Actual field practice and observation were held at BUSCO Sugar Milling Company, Inc. located at Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon. BUSCO manufacturers sugar beginning with the extraction of the juice from the sugarcane. the juice then undergoes a series of purification and concentration to finally produce raw sugar. All of the raw sugar produced is sent to the refinery to remove the impurities included in the crystal and produce refined sugar. The refinery manufactures refined sugar with almost 99.9% sucrose, low color and ash content. The accounted piculs per ton cane (PSTC) for BUSCO. Inc. is 1.70: refining yield is 0.97, and the total bagasse consumption of its raw sugar house and refinery s 112.94%. The special topic given involves the process done by BUSCO to utilize the flue gas in boiler feedwater preheater. Assessment of the efficiency and bagasse savings are done by making comparison computation with and without the installation of economizer. Installation of economizer in the boilers is proved to increase the efficiency of the steam generation system and consumption of bagasse is minimized. Double H Finned Type Sensor Economizer installed in boiler 5 of BUSCO, Inc. has an efficiency of 65.94% and saves 1,563.78 kg/hr bagasse. On the other hand, Smooth Tube Economizer installed in Boiler 4 has an efficiency of 65.81% and saves 1,103.36 kg/hr bagasse.
