Abstract

The major farm practice was conducted in Selma farm located at Barangay Aya, San Jose Batangas from April to May 2013. The farm owned by Ms. Isabelita Avecilla, is a diversified farm which has a total land area of 3.87 ha. It is planted to 35 different horticultural crops while 5 different animal species were raised. There are three separated black pepper production areas which is 0.83 ha in total. The operations observed include nursery practices, fertilization, irrigation, weeding, pruning, harvesting, primary processing and marketing. This cropping season, the farm produced 140 kg dried black pepper products. This harvest is just 20% of the average production of black pepper in Lipa which is 700-800 kg dried black pepper per hectare (BAS, 2014). These were sold at farm gate price of PhP310 per kg having total revenue of PhP43,400 for 0.83ha. The total production cost is PhP 31,590.80. With these, a net income of PhP11,809.20 was realized and an ROI of 1.37. Problems encountered were addressed accordingly and the student proposed a cropping calendar for black pepper production in the farm.
