Abstract

The major practice was conducted from October 2012 to November 2012 (fall season) and March 2013 to May 2013 (spring season) at Syngenta, Janghowon Research and Development Station, Gyeonggi, South Korea. The general objective of the major practice was to gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience of farm activities. The scope of the student?s major practice was her involvement in vegetable production and research and development. Greenhouse and open field production practices of different vegetables were the main activities that were discussed and analyzed. The crops involved were Capsicum frutescens (hot pepper), Citrullus lunatus (watermelon), Cucumis melo L. (oriental melon), Cucumis sativus L. (cucumber) and Raphanus sativus L. (radish). Farm activities such as land preparation, proper practices in preparing the seedlings, planting, transplanting, mulching, hardening, irrigation management, thinning, fertilizer application, greenhouse management, grafting procedure in cucurbits, cross breeding, packing, drying, harvesting and sorting of seeds were observed, performed and analyzed.
