Abstract

The major practice was conducted in three sites: Ateneo de Manila University, Claret School of Quezon City and Miriam College, under the supervision JSA, Inc. from April to June 2013. The Ateneo de Manila University?s Ocampo Field where the student focused on this site has an area of 6,635.7 m2 CSQC Soccer Field has 4,615.7 m2 and MC Soccer Field has 3,117.48 m2 . During the major practice, the maintenance operations done on the fields were observed. The student performed mowing, soil pH test, soil compaction test and fertilizer application during her major practice. Irrigation and soil compaction were the two major problems in both Ocampo Field and MC Soccer Field, while only compaction is the major problem on CSQC Soccer field. Another major problem that was encountered is the overuse of the fields. Even with the proper inputs and management, if the field?s condition is not being considered, the turf would be greatly damage and its playability will lessen. The estimated maintenance cost per month on a per square meter basis for Ocampo Field is Php 1.17, for CSQC Soccer Field, Php 6.65 and for MC Soccer Field, Php 2.48. The cost for Ocampo Field and MC Soccer Field is not enough to have a good quality turf. The poor appearance of the fields is attributed to the low cost budget allotted x for the field maintenance. For the CSQC Soccer Field, the cost is enough as manifested its green and dense turf. After the major practice, student learned that proper use and maintenance of the field would result to a vigorous and dense turf. A good budget for the maintenance of sports fields is important to help achieve a good quality turf. Likewise, proper management of resources and timing is important with wise decision-making.
