Abstract

The major practice was conducted in Mr. Ernesto Ochoa's pummelo orchard in Barangay Timbugan, Rosario, Batangas from April to October 2012. The farm has a total area of 21 hectares of which 18 hectares were planted to pummelo. The farm is laid out in a square planting system, 4 m and 6 m planting distance. In 2012, 6 kg each of complete fertilizer and muriate of potash were applied per tree. Water pumps were also used for irrigating the farm. Propping was performed to support the branches heavily laden with fruits. Pesticides were sprayed to control citrus rind borer and fruit fly. Fruits were bagged to add protection from fruit fly. Weeding was done with the use of a motorized grass cutter. The trimmings were then used as feed for cattle. Harvesting was done from 9am to 3pm. Harvested fruits were cured, sorted, and then packed before bringing them to the markets. During the 2012 fruiting season, the farm earned P 2,940,000 or P 163,333 / ha from selling 104, 000 kg of pummelo fruits yielding 5, 778 kg per hectare. After deducting the total cost P 1,281,640, the net income was P 1, 658,360 at P 92,131/ ha.
