Abstract

A study was conducted at Barangay San Cristobal San Pablo City after the peak months of squash and eggplant production of 2011 to assess whether these vegetable farmers are rational and to assess the input use efficiency of the farmers and to identify the problems affecting the vegetable production. The data results showed that vegetable farmers were not maximizing profit leading them to be irrationality, which means that the farmers are not optimally allocating their resources. The problems seen from the results were high input costs and that there were no specific place for marketing of produce. It was recommended that there is a need for the Department of Agriculture to assist the farmers in forecasting input and output prices, which greatly affects on how well these farmers will allocate the inputs.
