Abstract

The practicum was conducted at the Department of Science and Technology Region IV-A in its Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory from April to May 2011, completing a total of 150 hours of work. During the course of the practicum, the student observed and learned the different operating procedures and policies done by an ISO accredited analytical laboratory from sample collection and reception to sample preservation, analysis, record keeping, and waste disposal. He also applied his technical knowledge in chemistry and microbiology in conducting different analytical procedures done during the practical training. The student also observed and learned the use of different instruments and pieces of equipment not available in school. He gained confidence in executing different techniques and was acquainted with different work ethics observed in the work place. He learned the importance of doing quality work in spite of numerous samples to be analyzed.
