Abstract

Abstract: The major practice was conducted in Ferrer farm in Brgy Lutucan Bata, Sariaya, Quezon and focused in the mango production. The farm owner Mr. Ferrer lives overseas so farm management was left to Mr. Montemayor. Information regarding the farm practice was obtained from interviewing the supervisor, Mr. Montemayor. The trees were sprayed with 3% Ca(NO3)2 last December 2012 to induce flowering. Pest management practice was done by spraying eight times with a solution of chemicals. The chemicals used were Bingo, Laban, Sevin, Malathion, Chess, Lebaycid and Ivazeb. Bagging was also done at 65 days after flower induction to protect the developing fruits from insect pests. Harvesting was done at 115 days after flower induction. Total yield reached 72% approximately 19,800 kg of fruits that were sold for Php 216,00, while losses reached 26% due to cecid fly and capsid bug damage, misshapen fruits and fruit drops. Total production cost including depreciation cost of tools and equipment was Php 195, 355, excluding harvest cost. The cost to produce a kilogram of mango was Php 9.87 while the return on investment was computed to be 1.12. Recommendations to improve the farm were presented, including pruning, worker safety and fruit bagging.
