Abstract

The farm practice was conducted at the Department of Agriculture ? Cagayan Valley Integrated Agricultural Research Institute (DA-CVIARC) in San Felipe, Ilagan, Isabela from April to May 2011. The general objective of this study was to document and assess the soil management practices of the Center?scorn seed production area.In relation to this, problems were identified and addressed by providing recommendations for improvement of the Center?s soil management practices. DA-CVIARC is a government institution that is involved in research and development of crop varieties and in adopting sustainable practices in crop and seed production. Maintaining a productive soil for corn seed production was attained by the Center through soil management practices such ascompost making, soil analysis, liming, soil tillage, and fertilizer application. The Center acquired new technologies such as utilization of Compost Fungus Activator (CFA) which is essential in enhancing the decomposition process, and practicesto improve soilfertility and productivity of the corn seed production areas. Some possible recommendations to better improvement of soil management practices in the Center are improving composting method, appropriate soil analysis, and applying required amount of soil amendments.
