Abstract
The major farm practice was conducted in the municipalities of Libona, Manolo Fortich, Sumilao and Impasug-ong and in the city of Malaybalay in Bukidnon from april 23 to May 31, 2012. Del Monte Philippines, Incorporated farm has 23,000 hectares. It has a cannery 30 minutes away that is capable of producing 700,000 tons of pineapple annually. The plantation grows cultivars of ?Smooth Cayenne? specifically Clone 74 and Sweet 16. Clone 74 is grown for cannery purposes due to its cylindrical shape while Sweet 16, that can reach 16 brix, is for fresh fruit production. Growth stage of pineapple runs in a period of 33 months excluding the 6 months of following period. Up to the first ratoon crop is done in the plantation. The planting material is called seed but botanically is not a seed. Seeds refer to crowns, slips and suckers. The most preferred type of planting material is the sucker since it is more tolerant to pests and diseases. Land preparation involves the operations of clearing edges, covering of ditches, knockdown, chopping, plowing, final harrowing, subsoiling, bed layout, bedding, ditching and sloping. The farm uses the planting distance of 7.9 inches in in quincunx pattern of planting. Planting rope with beads is used as a planting guide. Seventy four thousand one hundred is the population density of the plants per hectare. One hectare has an average yield of 123,000 kilograms or 123.3 tons. An estimate of 300,966.73php is the total cost incurred in a hectare for plant crop and 163,189.43php for the ratoon crop. The gross return is assumed to be 739,800php for the plant crop and 444,000php for the ratoon crop. An approximation of the net return is 438,833.27php for the plant crop and 280,810.57php for the ratoon crop.
