Abstract

Several unit operations are involved in the production of sugar. Most sugar mills consist of raw sugar department, refinery department, waste management department, boiler department and quality assurance and research department. In all the departments, observations of the actual operations as well as hands-on experience on the process equipment available were all earned in the training practice conducted in BUSCO Sugar Milling Company, Inc. along with the practice is a design problem about the countercurrent barometric condenser in order to complete the vacuum system for multiple effect evaporators of a hypothetical plant having a 10,000 TCD capacity. The condenser specifications were calculated and certain improvements were made to obtain good condensation and achieve higher condenser performance. Auxiliary equipment was also considered to help the condenser perform its role and complete the vacuum system. The calculated design values and design drawing were completed and presented, thus this study has succeeded in creating a new and good design which can be considered by the sugar factories in this country.
