Abstract

The technical performance of an ergonomically modified two-wheel hand tractor was conducted in lowland rice farms in five randomly selected towns of Laguna, Philippines A total of 15 farm tractor operators were considered as respondents in this study. Technical performance evaluation in terms of the tractor's speed, fuel consumption and field efficiency was conducted and were compared with the performance of commonly used tractors in Bay, Cabuyao, Calauan, Los Baños and Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Results showed that the modified two-wheel hand tractor has lower fuel consumption, ranging from 0.4L/h to 0.7L/h, than the commonly used hand tractors which ranges from 0.71 to 1.8L/h. The modified tractor's field efficiency ranges from 74% to 85% which are relatively at par with other-wheel tractors used in the study area. A comparative test was also done to determine the difference between the modified tractor and commonly used tractors in terms of ease of operation, manuverabilty, control and balance. Results showed that the modified hand tractor befits the respondent's body features thus making it easier to operate. Overall, the modified two-wheel hand tractor satisfies the desired performance needed by respondents in terms of field efficiency, comfort and safety.
