Abstract

Mariwasa Siam Ceramics, Inc. is a Thai-Filipino Manufacturing company that produces ceramics tiles such as wall tiles and floor tiles. Problem identified was the presence of non-value adding activities in the Finished Foods-Wall Tiles Warehouse which results to increased processing time of sales orders. The study focused on wall tiles which is available in two sizes, 20x20cm and 20x30cm. The company gives 4% discount to products not delivered on time. From January to June 2011, a total of 2.43% or 1,039,475 pcs of 20x20cm wall tiles and 2.725 or 665,006 pcs of 20x30cm wall tiles were not dispatch on time which resulted to a total of PhP 871,351.36 of discounts given by the company. Solutions derived were training of forklift operators, imposing a strict supervision and a storage and retrieval system based on demand. These solutions were directed towards the elimination of increased processing time of sales orders due to non-value adding activity, searching/locating. It was determined that upon implementation of the alternative solution to the problem, the MSCI FG Warehouse will be able to eliminate late dispatches. This is equivalent to 0 opportunity loss.
