Abstract
The use of seawater as mixing water on the concrete has been an interest of many studies in the past years. It ought to provide solution regarding the water crisis in our environment. In this a study, the effect of seawater as mixing and curing water on the flexural strength of concrete with fly ash has been investigated. Concrete with varying cement replacement with fly ash()%, 10%, and 20% which were subjected combinations of normal water (N) and seawater (S) as mixing and curing water (NN, NS, SS. SN and SA) were tested after 7, 28 and 90 days of curing. Mixes with seawater showed highest strength at 7 days while mixes with normal water showed the highest at 28 days. As for 90 days, NS concrete with 0% fly ash marked the maximum strength. The strength of concrete showed a decreasing trend for increasing fly ash content. Generally, there was continuous strength gain for all cases. Seawater should be considered as mixing and curing water, except without moist curing, since it was found to have no significant difference with other cases although its effect on corrosion should be taken into account.
