Abstract
A field-type hot water tank for disease control of agriculture products consisted mainly of stainless steel boiler and concrete jacket was evaluated. The optimum fuel feed rate and damper opening for preheating was determined as well as the effect of hot water treatment using the field-type unit on quality of fruit samples. Heat balance calculation during preheating, cooling and dipping was also performed. COst analysis of hot water treatment was also conducted. The fuel feed rate were 0.75kg/min, 1.00kg/min and 1.25kg/min while damper opening was set to 33%, 67% open and 100% open. Nine operating conditions were generated. The exhibited burning efficiency ranged from 98% to 99% which showed the capable design of the hot water tank. Results showed that the optimum condition for burning efficiency was the operating condition having fuel feed rate of 1.000kg/min and damper opening setting of 67% oPEn. The obtained thermal efficiency ranged from 8% to 16% only which were very low values. The assessment of 'Carabao' mangoes after the conduct of hot water treatment revealed that hot water-treated samples had good peel color development: however fruit samples were more susceptible to injuries. Hot water treatment was also profitable utilizing the field-type unit evaluated.
