Abstract
Amidst the fast rate of electricity price increase, the University of the Philippines Los Baños, being a consumer of an enormous amount of electricity, now seeks for ways of, if not to reduce, how it can utilize its sources more efficiently. Unfortunately, the existing electrical system of the university lacks the separate measuring facilities in each of its establishments to monitor the consumption. Hence, arising the need for an alternative way to conduct a load profiling. In this study, data gathering for the load profiling were accomplished by electrical energy auditing. Since most of appliances seldom operate in accordance to their rated power, usage multipliers were formulated in this study to come up with a more suitable set of parameters to compare. In order to have a uniform usage multiplier for each type of appliance, the average of the usage multipliers of the same type were calculated and used to solve for the computed power. After the completion of all the necessary data, the load profiles were then plotted using Microsoft Excel. Using these load profiles of power and energy of individual buildings of the university, the characteristics like peak consumptions (W) can now be easily observed. Therefore, this study now serves as a stepping stone and basis for future studies in lined with the university's foremost goal of discovering more ways to save energy.
