Abstract
In this field practice, the aim was to determine the effect of swimming pool located on the podium of the SM Light Residences Project on the seismic performance of the building frame. The building frame of the project was modeled using a trial version of STAAD software considering actual dimensions of the structural members obtained from the Structural Department of DDT Kontract Inc. Two models were made including building frame without swimming pools. the generated models were imported to SAP 2000 (trial version) using the NLINK option of the structural program. The responses of the building frames against seismic loads were determined using Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA). The parameters used to generate the response spectra were obtained using the guidelines in National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP). Results showed that the presence of the swimming pool in the frame induce lesser displacement compared to the other model. Using the models. it was found out that there is a 16% decrease in the maximum displacement due to the contribution of the swimming pool as damper.
