Abstract
The drainagesystem in Severina Subdivision, Bagumbayan,Taguig City was reconstructed in 2009 after the flooding in the area due to Typhoon Ondoy. The reconstruction was apparently made without the aid of design analysis.Due to thid fact, the author made a hydraulic analysis of the drainage system in Severina Sibdivision to determine its hydraulic efficiency based on the Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH) design standards. This was done using a hydraulic model of the drainage system using HEC-RAS.The drainage system was found out to be overdesigned. HEC-RAS showed the it has a maximum flow capacity of 1.99m³/s compared to the likely flow discharge calculated for the subdivision which is 0.44m³/s. Moreover, the model showed that the velocity of water in some parts of the canal is less than 0.6 m/s.the required minimum velocity to avoid sediment particle depostion, which can lead to drainage clogging and therefore flooding during rainfall events.
