Abstract

The plant practice was conducted at Central Azucarera Don Pedro, Inc. (CADPI) located at Brgy. Lumbagan, Nasugbu, Batangas. This was done to be able to apply the knowledge gained from the university, to familiarize with the different industrial equipment and to learn and experience the actual operations in the industry. The practice was done for 288 hours from April 19 to May 29, 2012. CADPI is a factory that produces raw and refined sugar and their products are distributed to the different food manufacturing industries in the Philippines. Actual application of the theoretical knowledge was done in various departments of CADPI including the mills, boiling house, raw house, refinery, quality control, boilers, and wastewater department. A special topic was assigned to determine the correlation of variables involved in calculating the sugar distribution. The company’s sugar sharing system is 65% for the planter and 35% for the miller and the calculation was done by two methods – the longer method and the shorter method. It was foundout that the longer method makes used of raw sugar material balance and the other isa shortcut used to check if the calculations obtained from the raw sugar material balance method and the shortcut method are the same. Furthermore, the relationships of various variables affecting the sugar distribution were determined.
