Abstract

University students can be categorized as a group that has complex and unique travel behaviour. They have irregular class schedules and freedom in the campus environment that causes them to have a different travel pattern. The output of this study will provide a better understanding of the travel behaviour of students and their attitude toward public transportation that may serve as reference and framework to assist in transportation planning and development of the university. This study analyzed travel behavior of 196 students living inside UPLB. All participating students are asked to complete a survey form and a seven-day travel diary. This study examined the travel patterns of students as well as their trip generation, mode split, distance traveled and travel times. Students were divided according to their age and gender to determine the difference of their travel behaviour among groups. From the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test, it was found that there is a significant difference between average weekdays and weekends trips. This result could be used in making models for travel demand forecasting however, it should be analyzed and interpreted carefully since this would be the basis for choosing the group to be considered.
