Abstract

Umicore Specialty Chemicals Subic, Inc. is a chemical manufacturing company that specializes in the production of different Copper and Nickel salts. As of May 2014, the company is losing 28.75% of their possible total sales, an average of Php 15,771,399.86 per month. The company is deemed inefficient because their actual capacity of 33,156.08 kg cannot meet the monthly demand of 41,666.67 kg. The causes of 16.73% inefficiency in the washing process were identified using the Ishikawa diagram. Five controllable factors were identified: lapse in the implementation of job assignment of the operators, scheduled break time is not aligned with the machine activities, insufficient number of pumps in the washing area, lack of strict supervision and no proper maintenance schedule for the pumps and were given appropriate controls. Implementation of all the controls were recommended and the result was a reduction on inefficiency in the washing process by 14.47% and a yearly savings of Php124,706,228.52.
