Abstract

Company XYZ is a manufacturing company which produces a wide range of cosmetic products distributed in the Philippines and other nearby countries in Asia. Currently, the ROD Packaging Lines are not able to meet their target productivity due to WC 437 which has an average monthly productivity of 245.55 units per man-hour -- 85.13 units per man-hour short from its target productivity. This led to total lost units of 263,650 which translated to a lost sale of Php 39,647,500.00 due to unmet packaging output targets from April 2013 to March 2014. It was determined that WC 437 is down about 4124.25 minutes per month which is 31.57% of the productive time. The root causes are: failure to follow SOP in the work area and unresolved mechanical issues. Implementation of a system of disciplinary actions and rewards for failure to follow SOP in the work area should reduce the unplanned man downtime by 19.27%. Machine part alteration and redesign for the unresolved mechanical issues can reduce the unplanned machine downtime by 37.64%. The benefits of the recommendations are as follows: estimated totsl downtime of 2347.11 minutes per month and an estimated productivity of 297.63 units per man-hour. An overall implementation cost of Php 300,000.00 is needed and annual opportunity sales of Php 31,048,249.45 can be expected.
