Abstract

The field practice was conducted at Central Azucarera Don Pedro, Inc. (CADPI) located at Brgy. Lumbangan, Nasugbu, Batangas. The factory has six departments: Mills Department, Boiling Department, Refinery, Boilers Department, Quality Control Department, and Environmental Management and Safety Department. Several unit operations and processes are involved in the raw and refined sugar manufacture. Among which are juice extraction, clarification, filtration, evaporation, pan boiling, crystallization and centrifugation in the raw sugar production. On the other hand, refinery plant undergoes affination, melting, carbonatation, filtration, decolorization, evaporation, pan boiling and centrifugation. The actual operations in the factory were observed and noted. Furthermore, a special topic about the process recovering carbon dioxide for carbonation was given and studied. The general technologies for carbon dioxide recovery in the industry were discusses and a new process that best suits the refinery operation was also proposed.
