Abstract
An increase in the projected peak demand of LEYECO III by 2019 will be solved by embedding a hydro-powered generator along the Feeder 4 distribution system. However, due to uneven load distribution the system is unbalanced which contributes harm to operation, reliability and safety. Therefore, before embedding the hydro-powered generator, the distribution system should operate in a nearly balanced scheme. The proposed solution is through lateral phase swapping by applying the concept of fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic will be applied to the distribution system of LEYECO III Feeder 4 due to its robust capability of finding solution even with uncertainties. The objective is to attain an operation in a nearly balanced scheme through minimum number of phase swapping. Upon application of fuzzy logic to the system, it has been found out that the optimum solution was to implement four lateral phase swap on nodes P1410, P1420, P1390 and P1250. After lateral phase swapping, the unbalanced flow near the source has reduced to some extent. Therefore, system unbalance is to be quantified through voltage unbalance and system loss to determine the effect of the balancing scheme to the entire feeder system. It has been found that the optimal phase swapping scheme has greatly reduced the voltage unbalance and system loss of the entire feeder system.
