Abstract
Rice hull ash (RHA) is used as partial replacement to cement in order to provide another use of the by-product, reduce RHA waste deposit and consequently produce strong and durable concrete at a cheaper cost. This paper presents early compressive strength and bulk density of concrete with RHA as replacement for cement. Four different cement replacements by volume of RHA were done (10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%). The results were compared with those of concrete without RHA. The weight was measured for each sample specimen for each RHA % level (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40) which was cured for 7 days. Compressive test was carried out by applying a constant uniform pressure through the testing machine on the concrete hollow blocks until failure occurs. Results show that the more RHA used in the concrete mix, the lighter the finished concrete become. However, its early compressive strength decreases.
