Abstract

The K0053 + 700 to K0054 +500 is a stretch of pavement along the Calamba - Sta. Cruz - Famy Junction Road and was widened by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in 2014. The construction and modification of the road have various effects to the surrounding community before, during, and after the construction. The nationwide widening project is mandated by the law therefore no traffic impact assessment (TIA) was made. In line with this, a TIA was performed to assess the existing road condition, determine hazards that the construction poses, and recommend countermeasures to reduce risk levels. Included in the TIA is the analysis of level of service (LOS). It was determined that the project will improve the level of comfort and convenience of the motorists once the project is completed. he road section was found to have acceptable LOS at 4-lane configuration before and after construction. Also, the road section was found to be sustainable in the next 15 to 16 years given that the road section is converted to a 6-lane highway. Hazards identified were the existing posts and tress that are still within the road width. Immediate removal or relocation of these obstructions was recommended in the TIA report.
