Abstract

In installing new power generating sources, an impact analysis is required by the Philippine Distribution Code (PDC). Installation of the new power source may lead to further distribution network problems. This study aims to improve te system voltage profile of BOHECO I before a new power plant can be installed on its network. The proposed solution was to determine the strategic location and sizes of shunt capacitors on the primary lines of the system, as it accounts to 38% on the total loss on the network (Aman et.al,2013). The feeders with voltage violations according to Energy regulatory Commission (ERC) and PDC were selected. The list of candidate buses on each bus were chosen using Loss Sensitivity Factor (LSF) while the sizes of capacitor were picked using the combined Power Loss Sensitivity (CPLS) Algorithm. After acquiring the final lists of candidate buses and performing the CPLS algorithm, a total of 12 shunt capacitors were installed on the buses. The sizes of capacitors used were 50kVAr, 100kVAr and 150 kVAr as based on the IEEE Std.18-2002. After placement and sizing of shunt capacitors, the final voltages of the buses were assessed and were observed to be within the allowable range of 0.9 to 1.1p.u. set by the ERC and PDC.
