Abstract
The utilization of wastes with valuable properties along with tha aid of technological breakthroughs, is one of the solutions of the recent studies to meet the demands and requirements for concrete technology. In line with this philosophy, the study used amorphus nanosilica synthesized from rice hull ash as partial replacement tocement to form desirable concrete mixture. Tree mix designs were used with nanosilica content od 0, 2.5% and 5% by mass od cement at fixed water-cement ratio od 0.54. The slump, split tensile strength and flexural strength of concrete with nanosilica were determined and compared to plain concrete. Results showed that both strengths improve with the addition of nanosilica. The optimum split tensile and flexural strength values were both realized at 2.5% replacement which are 23.83% and 19.01% higher than plain concrete, respectively. However, the slump decreased with increasing nanosilica content.Statistical analysis was also performed to further verfy the results of the experiment. It was concluded that the incorporation of nanosilica has significant effect on the split tensile strength and flexural strength of concrete.
