Abstract

Petron Corporation is the leading oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines and provides for 38% of the total fuel market. It sells fuel oil and diesel in bulk to industrial customers in power generation, construction, land and marine transports, fishing and various manufacturing sectors. The Philippine Airlines and other international domestic carriers also depend on Petron for jet fuel. Other than that, Petron retails gasoline, diesel and kerosene to motorists and public transport operators through more than 1,200 retail stations. The main focus of the study is voyage data processing used to store and analyze profitability of the Supply and Distribution department It was identified that 4.9% of the total monthly off-hires go unclaimed due to the flaws of the current voyage data processing system. Also, the voyage data processing consumes more time than what should be allotted to the data processing. The root causes of the time consuming data processing were identified and analyzed using Ishikawa Diagram and CNX Analysis. The controllable factors were recommended immediate and minor solutions like improving working environment, giving guidelines on proper break times and protective measures to prevent viruses and increase computer security. The experimental factors indentified were lack of man power, repetitiveness, too manual and no automated application available. If the recommendations made are implemented, an annual savings of Php14,354,334 will be made. The benefits are elimination of unnecessary tasks, more than 50% reduction in processing time, minimal manpower needed and a virtual 92.5% reduction of errors in off-hire claims.
