Abstract
The bursa of Fabriciusof chickens plays an important role in early immunity it provides B lymphocytes that produce antibodies to neutralize pathogenic organisms, such as viruses and bacteria to protect the body from detrimental effects. This study is aimed at determining the normal morphological and histological parameters of the bursa of Fabricius of a month old female gamefowl chicks coming from hyperimmunized breeders. The study involves 25 gamefowl chicks from 5 different gamefowl farms. The results of the study across farms, show normal and uniformity of values for both parts of the study threshold values were obtained for each parameter and a strong positive linear relationship was observed between the weight of the chicken and the bursa of Fabricius. Immune and protective competency of the bursa starts at 4 weeks in the case of gamefowls. There are no observed significant difference found between the bursa of gamefowls, broilers, and layers. Vaccination can be postponed up to 4 weeks in case of gamefowls coming from hyperimmunized breeders. This study shows that certain aspects of animal health applicable to broilers and layers, can also be made available to gamefowls such as vaccination, disease monitoring, and diagnosis.
