Abstract

Building code is a set of provisions and associated standards intended to handle the different aspects of the design, materials, and alterations of the construction of buildings and occupancy to guarantee the safely and security of humans. In the Philippines, these building codes include the National Building Code of the Philippines (NBCP) and Fire Code which serve as guide to engineers and architects in construction design to provide a more secured environment. This study is an assessment of the code compliance of selected buildings in College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). Checklist of the summary of the provisions of the codes was made and used on the evaluation. As-built drawings of the buildings were used in the assessment and site inspections were also done. Means of egress, vertical features, ventilation, fire protection systems and miscellaneous features of the buildings were assessed. The assessment showed that ES B has the lowest level of compliance with a 50.85% given its high number of non-compliant features of 58 which is the highest among the buildings. This is due to several factors such as early construction year and high number of occupants of the buildings which resulted to a higher risk of the building. Most of the fire protection systems were not compliant. The top code violations were also obtained and action plans for each building were also constructed.
