Abstract

Currently, the cost of producing the feeds F1 and F2 in Benacorn corporation exceeds the selling price which causes a loss in the company by Php 0.38/kg and Php 1.26/kg respectively and allowing a small margin of profit of Php 0.13/kg in F3. This study aimed to increase the profit of producing TMR by creating a linear program that will compute the formulation that would provide the needed daily nutrients of the cows at the least cost possible. The Solver Add-In of the Microsoft Excel was used in order to create the program. Constraints used in the formulation were based on the recommendation by the nutritionist, PHILSAN (2010), current company requirements and the supplier's recommendations. After creating the program, model weight of the cows were inputted in order to acquire the proposed formulations. The results were compared to the current formulation used by the company. Results showed that the proposed formulations were able to reduce the raw material cost by Php 2.12/kg in F1, Php 2.60/kg in F2 and Php 0.19/kg in F3. In terms of the savings per cow per month, the new formulations were able to generate a savings of Php 807.82 for F1 without urea and Php 809.636 with urea, Php 1,447.6 for F2 and Php 30,173 for F3. In conclusion, linear programming is an effective tool for generating the least cost feed formulation.
