Abstract

PETBottle Company is a manufacturer of PET bottles situated in Caloocan City. The management wants to improve the quality of its products by reducing the amount of customer returns that they receive each year. In the first 5 months of 2015, it was found out that 80% of the customer returns were actually attributed to material handling rejects (MHRs) which is already equivalent to Php 203, 079.11 worth of lost sales. However, no historical records can quantify the percentage of the material handling rejects caused by the firm of by the customer who returned them. Thus the study caused by the firm or by the customer who returned them. Thus the study focused on what is controllable to the company which is under the Finished Goods Handling and Delivery system. MHR-prone activities in the system were documented and the root causes of the problem were identified. Alternative solutions to the experimental causes were generated to address the problems. Improvements and controls were created to strengthen the monitoring system in material handling. The recommendations of the study are expected to reduce the current MHR quantity by 80.77% and could have saved the firm Php 92,029.19 if it were implemented in the first five months of 2015. Sales opportunities worth Php 159,628.30 from non-moving stocks were also recognized.
