Abstract

This study focuses on the evaluation on the voltage level and transformer loadings of the proposed system expansion of Malita-2 Feeder of Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DASURECO) and the possible effects of connecting the 25-kW mini-hydro power plant (MHPP) project using SynerGEE Electric 5.1.205 as the stimulating tool. In the initial simulation prior to the connection of the proposed expansion, it is discovered that some transformers exceeded 100% of their loading capacity with the maximum of 110% in Tran C2797 and Tran D2791. These were first replaced, although according to IEEE Std C57.91-1995, the loadings are still within the allowable limit. After connecting the proposed expansion, while no transformers exceed their capacity, the voltage levels, except for SEC C-1, are undervoltage. Although the voltage levels were improved by as much as 0.59% after connecting the MHPP, it is not sufficient to meet standards. This was solved by varying the PU tapping of transformers by 2.5% increment. Also, connection of capacitor banks was conducted. Although the original results showed better voltage levels in most sections, the use of capacitor banks result to lower transformer loadings by at most 15% in Tran 25B. In both cases, the MHPP only participated by 1% in the loading of transformers.
