Abstract

The performance of Magat reservoir over a 30 year period (1984-2013) was assessed in terms of temporal reliability (Re), volumetric reliability (rv), resilience (φ), and vulnerability (η). Results revealed that the Magat reservoir performed favorably in terms of Re (93%) and Rv (92%) but poorly in terms of φ (44%) and η (86%). In an attempt to improve these indices, an alternative option was developed through the use of HEC-ResSim 3.0, which resulted to improved performance having Re of 98%, Rv of 93%, φ of 50%, η of 84%. On the other hand, the irrigation system losses and efficiency were evaluated through water balance analysis for the 80,000-ha service area. System losses were estimated at 0.83 lps/ha and the system efficiency at 51%, indicating an acceptable performance for a large scale irrigation system.
