Abstract
Agroforestry has demonstrated socioeconomic and environmental benefits in upland farming. However, for agroforestry to be effective and beneficial to the target end-user, research-extension services must be effective in achieving high rates of adoption. This study was undertaken to examine the linkages between research and extension in generation and dissemination of agroforestry in the community-based forest management program in Liliw, Laguna. Data for the study were collected from the various sectors (researchers, extension professionals and farmers), through the use of structured questionnaire and interview schedule. Qualitative method was used to make judgment and characterization on efficiencies and effectiveness of the institutional linkages. Analysis showed that there was a strong linkage between the NGOs and endusers while horizontal linkages between the institutions were perceived as weak. The end-users emphasized the need for learning through direct interaction with researchers and extensionists. Land tenure was likely the social factor that influenced the adoption of technology. The research determined that, the three groups of respondents held similar opinions in regard to the role of agroforestry in environmental conservation. All of the stakeholders view income and environmental conservation of equal importance.
