Abstract

The plant practice was conducted at Central Azucarera Don Pedro, Inc. (CADPI) located at Brgy. Lumbangan, Nasugbu, Batangas. This was done to be able to practice the theoretical knowledge gained from the university. It was compromised of 288 working hours, from the 14ᵗʰ of April to the 20ᵗʰ of MAy 2011. CADPI is a raw sugar manufacturing factory and refinery. They produce raw sugar and refined sugar for different customers in the food industry. Actual application of the theoretical knowledge was done in various departments including the milling, boiling house, refinery, boilers, wastewater (EMSD), quality control, and warehousing department. A special topic was assigned to propose a process pipe line layout which aims to improve the main line of production of raw sugar at CADPI. A hypothetical piece of land was used for the new design. It was then compared to the old design in terms of the total length saved and the approximate money saved per unit length of pipe saved. Other parameter that was compared is the power requirement for pipeline systems with pumps The pipelines that were studied were divided into four stations and each station has only a given pipeline system that was considered. For the heating station, the total length and power requirement are the same.For the clarifier station,the length saved is equal to about 24% of the original length and the power saved is equal to 0.3 hp. For the evaporation section, the length saved is equal to about 11% of the original length and the change in the power requirement of the pumps is 0.1hp. For the pan floor station, the length saved is equal to 64% of the original. All in all, the floor space that was saved the improvements is about 13% of the original floor space.
