Abstract

The major practice was conducted at the master-planned community of Mirala in Nuvali, Canlubang, Calamba City from April to July 2015. Mirala, a 29.5 hectare community with a concept of neighborhood park living which was developed by Alveo Land Corporation, a subsidiary of Ayala ALnd, Incorporated (ALI), was employed with various landscape installation and maintenance operations such as transplanting, staking, sodding, watering, weeding, pruning, and pest and disease management by the project's subconductor, New Carina's Garden. Additionally, Makati Development Corporation (MDC) Greens administered the operations of the subcontractor for quality management. Transplanting was done by installing container-grown shrubs and balled-and-burlapped trees on the site based on the plantingplan prepared by Inspira Design Core. Staking was implemented on trees to serve as their above-ground anchor for stabilization against strong winds. Installation of sods of carabao grass was done approximately 2.5 hectares of land. Irrigation was facilitated using four water trucks that, altogether, provide 160, 000 liters of water everyday to Mirala, with the creek in Nuvali Central connected from a spring, Matang Tubig, as a water source. The plants in the are were all on its establishments period, thus pruning was done only for the purpose of removing dead, diseased, and/or broken plant parts. In line with Nuvali's goal of sustainability, chemical control for weed, pest and disease management was minimized by prioritizing manual, mechanical, and/or cultural control methods. Six laborers were assigned on weeding, eight on watering, and ten for all-around landscape operations. Moreover, a cost analysis of the supply, installation and maintenance of plants in Mirala showed that the estimated cost of the softcape project is approximately Php16, 820, 000.00.
