Abstract

The major practice was conducted at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial (MACM), Taguig City, Metro Manila from June to July 2014. The MACM, which comprise 31.79 hectare of turf area, employs management practices such as mowing, irrigation, fertilization and pest management which are properly conducted to maintain their lush green lawn. Mowing is done using three types of equipment on a weekly basis while incorporating the proper mowing height. Irrigation is facilitated by an irrigation controller and weather station that records data regarding the irrigation run time and schedule. Fertilization is done six times a year using slow release fertilizer. As for the pest management, application of insecticides and fungicides are done using a boom-type sprayer at five and three times a year, respectively, depending on the occurrence of pests. Moreover, MACM spends about 18 M pesos (Php57.79 per m²) annually on the mowing, fertilization and pest management operations to be able to maintain high-quality turf.
