Abstract

The experiment was conducted from January to April 2016 in Barangay Luntal, Taal, Batangas to evaluate strategies for improving the nutrient management of sugarcane production and compare the growth response of sugarcane to different synthetic fertilizer materials at different rates. The experimental design was randomized complete block design (RCBD) with six treatments (T1 ? Control T2 ? HRR T3 ? FRR T4 ? HRR + Nexen T5 ? FRR + Nexen and T6 ? Nexen) and four replications. Soil samples were collected and performed the appropriate soil chemical analyses. Plant growth and development parameters were gathered at 9 days, 32 days, and 45 days after the application of fertilizers. Observations for plant height taken from the different treatments with varying fertilizer rates show that T4 (HRR + Nexen) had significantly the highest among the other treatments at nine days after application of fertilizers. At 32 days, T4 and T3 (FRR) showed no significance with each other, however they are significantly higher compared to T1 (Control) and T6 (Nexen). At 45 days after application of fertilizers, there were no significant differences in plant height across all treatments. On the other hand, observations for tiller numbers showed that there were no significant differences at 9 days and 45 days after fertilizing. However, at 32 days, T5 (FRR + Nexen) was not significantly different from T4 (HRR + Nexen) but it had significantly higher number of tillers compared to T1 (Control), T2 (HRR) T3 (FRR) and T6 (Nexen).
